The peak body for 24 Australian not-for-profit, member owned and community based health funds, hirmaa, has changed its name to Members Health Fund Alliance (Members Health).
Members Health CEO, Matthew Koce described the move to a new name and logo as a positive step forward.
“The Members Health name and logo is a reflection of the growing success of the not-for-profit, member owned and community based health insurance sector.”
“Initially established in the 1970’s, Members Health now represents 24 funds all sharing a common theme, they are entirely consumer driven and unashamedly put their members before profit.”
“Unlike the big for-profits, Members Health funds only exist to serve policyholders, not shareholders. Perhaps this explains why they are collectively experiencing policyholder growth at around five (5) times greater than the industry average, making them the success story of the Private Health Insurance industry”.
“A unified and cohesive national body, Members Health is a credible, valued, trusted and collaborative voice for the not-for-profit, member owned and community based health insurance sector. As a non-partisan organisation, Member Health works closely with all key stakeholders to get the best possible healthcare outcomes for consumers”.
Members Health funds have a deep commitment to providing fast access to high quality healthcare for well over 1.7 million Australians. Our 24 funds share a very close relationship with their policyholders. Many are headquarter in regional Australia such as Lithgow, Wollongong, the Latrobe Valley, Townsville, Launceston, Burnie and Newcastle where they are valued employers and contributors to the local community.
Many of our funds also serve key industries such as the Military families, Police and Emergency Services personnel, Doctors, Nurses and Midwives, Banking and Finance employees, Teachers and the families of Railway, Transport and Mining workers.
“All our funds are committed to meeting the highest possible standards, something Members Health helps facilitate through our professional development programs, benchmarking surveys and conferences” Mr Koce said.
“The not-for-profit, member owned, regional and community based health insurers that come together through Members Health are critical to consumer competition and choice. Without Members Health or our member funds, the private health industry would be significantly worse off in terms of both participation levels, cost and the quality of private health care.
Members Health is the peak industry body for 24 health insurers which are not- for-profit, member-owned and community based. In all, the Members Health funds provide private health insurance to over 1.7 million Australians.
