The Alliance of Australia’s not-for-profit health insurers extends its heartfelt support to the flood-affected communities of northern Queensland.
The Members Health Fund Alliance is made up of 25 of the country’s member owned, not-for-profit and community based funds, many of which help provide vital medical services to the people of Townsville and Queensland.
Queensland Country Health Fund is the largest regionally based health fund in Queensland with its head office located in central Townsville, and it is helping those impacted by the floods to regain their livelihoods in every way possible.
“With nearly 40 per cent of our members based in North Queensland, many have been personally affected. Like many locals, we have been saddened to see the impact of the recent significant rain event and associated flooding in North Queensland,” said CEO Aaron Newman.
“In addition to donating $25,000 to Givit – Good for Good Causes charity to support flood-assistance efforts, we’re making sure that members get as much support as possible, have the flexibility and peace of mind with their health cover so they can focus on what’s important – recovering from the floods.”
Collectively, Members Health funds provide vital access to health care to more than 500,000 people in Queensland, many of which are in the Townsville region – one of Australia’s most important military townships.
With members such as Queensland Country Health, Defence Health, Navy Health, Queensland Teachers Union Health; Members Health funds provide essential services to some of the country’s most vital industry-based communities, including military families, teachers, police, nurses and midwives, transport, mining and doctors.
Members Health CEO Matthew Koce stressed the importance of trusted, long-term community organisations when hardship strikes.
“The people of Townsville are facing a difficult road ahead, rebuilding after the floods, and it’s reassuring that these long-held community organisations have the people’s back,” he said.
“The reparation work under way in Townsville, and the role of health services at a time like this, is a true testament to the strength and importance of community.”
Regional communities where Members Health insurers are headquartered include Townsville, Lithgow, Wollongong, Newcastle, Latrobe Valley, Launceston, Burnie and Mildura.
Members Health is the peak national body for 25 health insurers, which are not-for-profit, member owned and community based. In all, the Members Health funds provide private health insurance to over 2 million Australians.
